Berry Competes Wins 2022 Speedway Motors IMCA Super Nationals

Tom Berry Jr. kicked off the 2022 Speedway Motors IMCA Super Nationals on Wednesday night at Boone (Iowa) Speedway, where he took both his IMCA Modified and IMCA Stock Car into battle.

With 252 IMCA Modified competitors in the pit area a fifth-to-second run in his heat race earned Tom the 20th-starting spot for the prelim feature. Unfortunately, he would retire early from the event to a 22nd-place finish.

Meanwhile, 243 IMCA Stock Cars converged on the bullring. Tom finished third in his B-Main, which left him scheduled to start fifth in the B-Main. He ultimately scratched from the event.

Before the night was over, he won his IMCA Stock Car All Star Last Chance Qualifier.

Tom looked for better luck on Thursday, but unfortunately the night would prove to be a battle once again. In IMCA Modified competition he started eighth, but would be a DNF, which ended his night early in the division.

In IMCA Stock Car competition he recorded a DNF in both his heat race and B-Main as well as a DNF in the IMCA Modified Race of Champions heat race.

On Friday evening Tom picked up a coveted feature win in the IMCA Modified division. He started the night with a heat race win before charging to the feature win from the seventh-starting spot.

His luck wouldn't be as good in the Fast Shafts All Star Modified Invitational, where he started 27th but retired to a 29th-place finish. IMCA Stock Car action found him DQ'd from his heat race as his night ended early.

While much of the week was a battle for the team, Tom ended things with a bang on Saturday night. Starting the Modified Dance feature in the sixth position via his Friday night qualifier win, Berry Jr. marched to the lead by lap 19 and then led the remainder of the 40-lap affair to bank the coveted victory over Kollin Hibdon, Cody Thompson, Aaron Turnbull, and Jeff Aikey.

His 20th win of the season marked his first Speedway Motors IMCA Super Nationals crown.

“This is unbelievable,” Berry said before trophy photos were taken in the NAPA Fan Zone. “I’ve been coming to Super Nationals for years and finally did it. To win Super Nationals just topped my season. I can’t believe it.”
