Tom Berry Jr. Competes in Cornhusker Classic
On Thursday night, Tom Berry Jr. entered the opening round of the Cornhusker Classic at I-80 Speedway (Greenwood, Neb.).
Fifty Modified pilots were on hand for the opening round. A third-place finish in his heat race sent Berry Jr. to the main event in the 16th-starting spot. With 22 laps to work his way forward in the field, Tom reached the second position at the checkered flag behind only Jacob Hobscheidt. Ryan Jenkins, Terry Phillips, and Cody Thompson rounded out the Top-5 finishers.
While he didn't win the night's feature Tom did bag the victory in the night's Dash for Cash. He was followed across the finish line by Jacob Hobscheidt, Terry Phillips, Cody Thompson, and Kelly Shryock.
Friday night's program saw 58 entries looking to get a jump on the weekend's $5,300 top prize via preliminary action.
With double heat races taking center stage, Berry Jr. raced from seventh-to-third in his first race, while the second heat race found Berry passing two drivers to pick up the win.
Via his Friday night performances, Tom lined up fifth on Saturday's grid. He raced to as high as the third position before retiring on the 36th circuit to an 11th-place finish.
