Berry Jr. starts both Jayhawk Classic features at Lakeside Speedway

Tom Berry Jr.’s Brodehl Trucking No. 11x was one of more than 40 Dirt Modifieds on the property on Friday when the 12th annual Jayhawk Nationals got underway at the 4/10-mile Lakeside Speedway (Kansas City, Kansas).

Berry started the two-day Summit United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) event by driving to a 10th-place finish in his heat race and 11th in his B-Main, necessitating a provisional into Friday night’s 35-lap feature.

The Des Moines, Iowa, driver started 23rd and picked up 10 spots in the race’s first few laps, but mechanical gremlins ended his night and he came home with a 25th-place finish.

On Saturday, Berry started in ninth position for the Jayhawk Classic’s 40-lap finale by virtue of finishing second in his heat race. He ended the evening with a 19th-place result in the main event.

The Jayhawk Classic was scheduled as a three-day program, however, rain forced the cancellation of Thursday night’s opener.
