Berry Jr. grabs top-10 result at Boone on Salute to Veterans Tour

Tom Berry Jr. traversed much of the Hawkeye State over the past week as he took part in the Hunting with Heroes Salute to Veterans Tour in his Brodehl Trucking No. 11x IMCA Modified.

The three-race tour commenced on Wednesday at Clay County Fair Speedway (Spencer, Iowa) where 39 IMCA Modified drivers hoped to take home the $2,000 first-place payout. Berry started second in his heat at the 3/8-mile speed plant but did not complete all the laps and finished 10th. He also did not complete his B-Main, recording a ninth-place finish. As a result, he was unable to transfer to the night’s feature event.

On Thursday, the tour schedule shifted to Kossuth County Speedway (Algona, Iowa) for a $3,500-to-win program that attracted 33 IMCA Modifieds. After a seventh-place result in his heat race, mechanical gremlins prohibited Berry from starting the B-Feature on the 4/10-mile track.

Berry had also planned on running the Dale DeFrance Memorial at Marshalltown Speedway (Marshalltown, Iowa) on Friday, but when that event was rained out, his next stop was the final night of the Salute to Veterans Tour at Boone Speedway (Boone, Iowa) on Saturday.

With his car’s mechanical issues sorted, Berry was among the best of the 57 IMCA Modified competitors at Boone in search of a $5,000 payday. After a fifth-to-second run in his heat on the 1/3-mile oval, Berry started the 25-lap A-Main from the 11th spot. He charged forward five positions to come home with a solid sixth-place finish.
