TBJ takes on 141 and Beaver Dam
Tom Berry Jr. competed at a pair of Badger State tracks from Tuesday through Friday, turning in a best finish of ninth in the Mike Wedelstadt-owned No. 77 IMCA Modified.
On Tuesday, Berry took part in the first of two nights of racing that made up Clash at the Creek XVI at 141 Speedway in Maribel, Wisconsin. The evening’s festivities brough 79 Modifieds to the 1/3-mile track for a $10,000-to-win program. Berry won both his heat and B-Main to start 11th in the 50-lap feature.
On the fifth circuit of the main event, another car made contact with Berry in the deck lid and quarter panel, causing a tire rub. As a result, Berry came home 20th and was scored with a DNF. There was a silver lining, however, as it was the first event Berry had ever made at the track.
The next night, 73 IMCA Modified drivers descended on 141 Speedway in search of another $10,000 first-place payday. Berry raced to fourth in his heat and won his B-Feature, putting him on the fifth row to start the 50-lap A-Main. He climbed one position to claim a ninth-place result.
On Friday, Berry moved on to Beaver Dam, Wisconsin’s Beaver Dam Raceway for the first night of Modified Twin 25s at the 1/3-mile speed plant. Forty-two cars were at the track for the $2,500-to-win program. Berry suffered a DNF and a seventh-place result in his heat after blowing a radiator hose while running second.
He ultimately decided to load the new Lethal Chassis race car and not risk damage on a rough track. He also elected to forego Saturday’s $2,500-to-win program at the facility.
