Berry Jr. Bests WWS Round No. 4 Action
Tom Berry Jr. scored his first open motor win in Modified competition on Friday night at FK Rod Ends Vado Speedway Park during the fourth round of the Rio Grande Waste Services Wild West Shootout presented by O'Reilly Auto Parts.
With 54 racers in action Tom convincingly won his heat race from the fourth-starting spot to lock into the third position on the 25-lap feature grid.
He pursued early leader Chad Wheeler for the first four circuits before charging to the lead on lap 5. He went on to lead the remainder of the event to bank his first win of the 2023 campaign.
Jake Gallardo, Dereck Ramirez, Steven Whiteaker Jr., and Chad Wheeler completed the Top-5 finishers.
On Saturday action resumed with Round No. 5 of the event. Tom won his heat race from the pole position to earn the ninth-starting spot for the $2,000-to-win feature.
In the 25-lap main event he advanced to an eighth-place finish.
The miniseries drew to a close on Sunday and Tom had high hopes for the $2,000-to-win program. Unfortunately a blown head gasket forced him to scratch from the balance of the program after heat race action.
